The Meetings on meaning: EUFACETS participation, Turin 2024

The Meetings on meaning 2024 titled “Narrating science and technology”, are an important event in Turin Semiotics, celebrating now 18 years since its first edition. Two of our researchers participated to bring the EUFACETS experience.

Prof. Silvia Barbotto presented ‘Alternative narratives and voices of memory’: she has exposed her research on identity, memory and the silver age, focusing on the design of the app that the EUFACETS research group is designing. She put emphasis on the operation of the images as an exploratory medium but also the use of the voice as a possibility and narrative potential. Prof. Federico Bellentani presented ‘Narrating GenAI: Truthfulness, actuality and promise’, taking a shrewd view of our digital present and the need for a critical actualisation of the future. He demonstrated how the status of content is evolving due to large language models (LLMs) and Generative AI and how semioticians can contribute to designing better models that create prompts efficient for specific interpretative communities.
